(ANS – Rome, May 5, 2026) – “Our Identity in the Church” is the title of the second chapter of the new edition of the Ratio, which Pascual Chávez invites readers to explore in a video interview available below.
At the beginning of March, the Vicar of the Rector Major, Stefano Martoglio, introduced the first chapter. The gradual presentation of the text will continue with the third chapter in early July, the fourth in early September, and the fifth in early November.
These first five chapters contain the core inspiration that animates the entire formation journey, including the various stages of formation, structures, and guidelines for provincial formation projects. The invitation is to engage with the process step by step, making it personally one’s own, in order to rediscover the beauty and relevance of the Salesian vocation and mission and to continue the journey together with renewed energy.
The text of this second chapter, along with the full new edition of the Ratio, is available on the website hyper-ratio.org.
This platform serves as a digital space where young Salesians from different Regions share video, audio, and written content they have produced in response to and in support of the ongoing presentation of the text. The aim is to promote a broad and effective reception of what the Ratio seeks to foster.
The website also offers in-depth resources for personal study and reflection, while serving as a useful tool for community animation.
The PDF version of the Ratio is currently being finalized and will be published soon on hyper-ratio.org, in five main languages: Italian, English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
Printed editions will follow, with distribution coordinated at the level of individual Salesian provinces.
Salesian Identity at the Center
Over these two months, the focus is on Salesian identity, guided by reflections offered by Fr. Chávez in his interview:
“For us, identity means profound unity, or the ‘grace of unity,’ as we say in our Salesian vocabulary. Identity becomes flesh, becomes life for us in apostolic consecration, which is like our first and last name on an identity card. It is God who consecrates us, and the mission comes from Him; thus, it is a single movement of love, embracing the obedient, poor, and chaste way of life that Jesus chose for Himself. We are sent by Him to young people as a community.
Let us learn to read life through the eyes of Don Bosco—eyes that see the Gospel and through the light of the Gospel. His dedication to young people and their salvation comes from the Gospel. If we abandon this foundation, we lose Don Bosco. From this same source flows his special love for poor young people—a love that is not only his own, but part of God’s way of being throughout Scripture, where the little ones and the poor hold the first place in His heart.”
The videos are available in five languages, and both videos and texts remain accessible and downloadable on hyper-ratio.org, including current and previous monthly materials.
