(ANS – Rome) – One year after its publication, the “Bosco Food” book continues to highlight the richness of the cultures in which the Salesian charism is present throughout the world. On the monthly anniversary of the Salesian Missions, we once again draw attention to this unique tool for evangelization.
The Bosco Food project began several years ago. Following the 150th anniversary of the first Salesian missionary expedition in 1875, the Missions Sector, under the leadership of Fr. Pavel Ženíšek, a member of the Sector, sought to showcase the tremendous richness and diversity of cultures through culinary traditions. The initiative recognizes food not only as nourishment for the body, but also as a gateway to culture and a powerful means of encounter and dialogue.
The project goes beyond cooking itself: each recipe is accompanied by a brief description of the Salesian presence in that country, together with cultural and religious insights.
After the recipes were published monthly alongside the missionary animation bulletin Cagliero11, the book was officially released in 2025. The international cookbook features recipes from 137 countries.
The publication has been a success not only within the Salesian world, but beyond it as well—serving as a simple and engaging way to showcase the vast work carried out by the sons of John Bosco in every corner of the world.
The book is therefore more than simply a commemorative keepsake marking the 150th anniversary of the Salesian Missions under the theme “Give Thanks, Reflect, Renew.” It remains a valuable resource for sharing the rich legacy of the Saint of Youth through a truly universal language.
The Missions Sector still has a limited number of printed copies available at the Salesian Central Office – Opera Sacro Cuore. Anyone interested in receiving a copy may write to cagliero11@sdb.org.
The digital version of the book is also available for download.
