(ANS – Cusco – September 25, 2026) – Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Peru, scheduled for November 11–16, will hold special significance for the Salesian Family. During his tour of the country, the Holy Father will arrive in Cusco and Pucallpa on Sunday, November 15, two cities where the Salesians maintain an educational, pastoral, and missionary presence.
The day will begin very early. After spending two days in Chiclayo, the Pope will depart for Cusco at 7:50 a.m. His first engagement will be a meeting with the faithful and representatives of popular devotion at the Saqsaywaman National Archaeological Park. Subsequently, at 11:45 a.m., he will recite the Angelus with the Catholic community in the city’s Plaza de Armas.
For the Salesian community in Cusco, the Pope’s visit marks an important milestone in a history that began in 1905, when Don Bosco’s work reached Cusco. More than a century later, the mission continues to support children, teenagers, and young people through education and pastoral care.
From the Andes to the Amazon
Following his stop in Cusco, Pope Leo XIV will travel to Pucallpa in the afternoon. There, a meeting is scheduled with male and female missionaries and representatives of the Amazonian peoples at the Malecón Puerto Callao.
The inclusion of Pucallpa in the itinerary highlights the reality of the Peruvian Amazon, its communities, and the Church’s evangelizing work in this region.
At 4:45 p.m., the Pope will celebrate Holy Mass at the Villa Deportiva Regional Ucayali. He will then depart for Lima at 7:05 p.m. to continue the final leg of his visit to Peru.
The Salesian presence in Pucallpa forms part of the commitment of the Salesian Province of “Santa Rosa” in Lima to the peoples of the Amazon, a mission that also has a long history in other Amazonian regions of the country, such as San Lorenzo, in the Datem del Marañón region.
The Holy Father’s visit to both cities will be closely followed by the Salesian communities: in Cusco, through an educational presence with more than a century of history; and in Pucallpa, through a mission particularly connected to the Amazonian context.
Sunday, November 15, will be a day to remember that, in the Andes and the Amazon, the Salesian mission has been supporting entire families for many years. Furthermore, Pope Leo XIV’s visit will be an opportunity to renew the commitment to evangelization and service that the Salesians live out in Cusco and Pucallpa, in the spirit of Don Bosco.
