(Stockton, California – September 19, 2026) – On September 19, the Mary Help of Christians Center in Stockton welcomed children, youth, parents, catechists, and volunteers for the first day of Oratory, Catechism, and Vietnamese language classes for the 2026–2027 school year.
The day began with an opening prayer led by Fr. Vien Nguyen, SDB, asking God’s blessing for a fruitful and successful new school year. Teachers, parents, and children then spent time getting to know one another, building friendships, and beginning the year together as one community.
The day concluded with a Sending Ceremony during Mass, in which teachers and parents committed themselves to faithfully teaching and catechizing the children according to the Catholic faith. This celebration reminded the community that educating and accompanying young people is a shared mission of the entire community.
On September 27, the Center continued this spirit of community with Community Day, bringing parishioners and families together for Mass, fellowship, food, and joyful activities. The presence of Fr. Joe Thinh Nguyen, Provincial, brought particular joy to the community. It was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen friendships, build unity, and celebrate the joy of being one faith community.
As we begin this new school year, we look forward to building our Center as a home where everyone belongs, a school where our children learn and grow, a church where we encounter Christ, and a playground where our youth experience joy and friendship.
A heartfelt thank you to all the parents, teachers, catechists, volunteers, and young people who made these opening days so joyful and meaningful. With the spirit of St. John Bosco, may we continue working together to create a community where faith, family, culture, and joy come alive. May Mary Help of Christians bless our new year and guide us in this mission.
