October 17, 2026: The Salesian Missionary Expedition Gets Underway

(ANS – Rome – October 16, 2026) – Everything is ready at Valdocco in Turin for the 2026 Salesian Missionary Sendoff. Tomorrow, Saturday, October 17, the 157th Missionary Sendoff of the Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB) and the 149th of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) will take place at the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin. Eighteen Salesians and 10 Daughters of Mary Help of Christians will receive the missionary cross and be sent out to serve around the world.

The Rector Major, Fr. Fabio Attard, SDB, will preside over the Eucharistic celebration at 3 p.m., with the Mother General of the FMA, Mother Chiara Cazzuola, in attendance.

The date chosen for the missionary sendoff is significant: it falls on the eve of World Mission Day, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The occasion will be a joyful celebration for the entire Salesian Family and the universal Church.

The event will also feature several activities honoring St. Maria Troncatti, FMA, who was canonized last year. These include the unveiling of her statue in the basilica at the beginning of Mass, an evening dedicated to her at 8:30 p.m., and an exhibition that will remain on display in the basilica through October 30.

“Let us accompany our brothers and sisters with our prayers!” is the invitation extended by Fr. Jorge Crisafulli, General Councilor for the Missions.

The celebration will be livestreamed on the YouTube channel of ANS – Agenzia iNfo Salesiana.

The booklet for the celebration is available for download below.
