Dear Salesian Family and Friends,
It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Bro. Patrick Maloney, who died on October 26, 2026 at 9:30 AM in Bellflower, California. His health had declined significantly in the days leading up to his death.
Bro. Patrick J. Maloney, SDB
(Born: September 18, 1945;
First Profession: August 16, 1966 – Newton, New Jersey;
Perpetual Profession: July 1, 1972 – Rosemead, CA;
Died October 26, 2026 – Bellflower, CA)
Although I was aware of the great suffering Bro. Pat had endured over the past several months, I fondly remember the times I spent with him at the Salesian community in Richmond, especially during my time with the novices. Whenever we asked him, “How are you doing?” his response was always a cheerful, “Never better!”
The novices and I were deeply impressed by Bro. Pat’s prayerful spirit, his remarkable cheerfulness in the face of pain and suffering, and his continued efforts to find ways to contribute to community life and the Salesian mission despite his physical limitations. His joyful spirit and faithful witness were a source of inspiration to us all.
As we mourn his passing, let us entrust Bro. Pat to the loving mercy of our Lord, praying that he may hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” and be welcomed into the joy of Paradise.
