Bellflower, California – St. John Bosco High School is set to launch a new fencing program for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year in collaboration with Lartin Brothers Sports. The Bosco Fencing Club has registered with USA Fencing, offering students the opportunity to compete with top young fencers from around the world.

Fencing, a long-standing Olympic sport since the inaugural modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, is also an NCAA sport. As a college preparatory school, St. John Bosco continues to expand its programs both in the classroom and on the playing field with the goal of preparing its students to excel in college and in life. Whether members of the Bosco Fencing Club go on to compete at prestigious colleges and universities like Harvard, Penn, Notre Dame and Columbia whose fencing programs have all won numerous NCAA Fencing Championships, or they just want to try something new and be a part of a team, the technical excellence, grace and teamwork that they’ll learn from fencing are valuable lifelong skills.

“We are thrilled to add fencing to our championship-winning athletic program,” said Vince Brown, Director of Athletics at St. John Bosco. “Providing our students with another sport that aligns with our mission to develop well-rounded individuals is truly fulfilling as an Athletic Director. It’s a great time to be a Brave.”

Bosco Fencing Club will be open to both students with a strong interest in the sport as well as students seeking a new challenge. As with St. John Bosco’s other 3 club sports and 13 CIF sports, excellent training facilities and university-level training camps will be provided to ensure that team members can train and compete in a safe and comfortable environment.

The Bosco Fencing Club season is set to run from November to February, beginning during the 2024-2025 school year. Details about the 2024-2025 season will be announced in September. Any St. John Bosco student interested in joining the team is encouraged to email fencing@bosco.org for more information.
