(Bellflower, California) – The Salesian Cooperators (Spanish Center), together with the youth of St. Dominic Savio Youth Group in Bellflower, had the opportunity to visit the residents of Rose Villa Community Center, a senior community center on April 25, 2026. The purpose of this visit was to teach the young people the importance of living out the Corporal Works of Mercy, especially by visiting and accompanying the elderly with love and respect. The youth were also guided in creating meaningful connections with the residents of Rose Villa, encouraging them to spend time with them and get to know them better.
At the beginning of the visit, many of the young people felt nervous and did not know how to start a conversation. To help them feel more comfortable, we provided them with a sheet containing simple questions in both English and Spanish, which allowed them to approach the residents with more confidence and ask them about their lives, families, hobbies, and memories.
As the visit went on, the nervousness quickly disappeared and was replaced by smiles, laughter, and heartfelt conversations. The youth gained confidence and greatly enjoyed listening to the residents’ stories, while also sharing about their own lives. It was beautiful to see different generations connect in such a natural and joyful way.
We Salesian Cooperators are grateful to have guided these young people through this experience and are proud to see them grow in confidence as they lived the values of kindness, respect, and service, putting the Corporal Works of Mercy into practice, especially by visiting and accompanying the residents of Rose Villa with love and dignity. It was undoubtedly a meaningful day for everyone present. We hope to continue creating more opportunities like this in the future.
Los Jovenes de Sto. Domingo Savio llevan alegria a los Residentes de Rose Villa
(Bellflower, California) – Los Salesianos Cooperadores (grupo español), junto con el grupo juvenil de Santo Domingo Savio de Bellflower, California, tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar a los residentes del Centro Comunitario para personas mayores Rose Villa el día 25 de abril de 2026. Nuestro propósito en esta visita fue enseñarles a los jóvenes la importancia de vivir las Obras Corporales de Misericordia, especialmente al visitar y acompañar a los mayores con cariño y respeto. Los jóvenes también se dejaron guiar para crear conexiones significativas con los residentes de Rose Villa, animándolos a pasar tiempo con ellos y a conocerlos mejor.
Al comienzo de la visita, muchos de los jóvenes se sentían nerviosos y no sabían cómo iniciar una conversación. Para ayudarles a sentirse más cómodos, les ofrecimos una hoja con preguntas sencillas en inglés y español que les permitio acercarse con mas confianza y hacerles a los residentes preguntas sobre sus vidas, familias, pasatiempos y recuerdos.
A medida que avanzó la visita, los nervios desaparecieron rápidamente y fueron reemplazados por sonrisas, risas y conversaciones sinceras. Los jóvenes obtuvieron confianza y disfrutaron mucho escuchando las historias de los residentes, al igual compartieron sobre sus propias vidas. Fue hermoso ver a diferentes generaciones conectarse de una manera tan natural y alegre.
Los Salesianos Cooperadores nos sentimos agradecidos de guiar a los jóvenes en esta experiencia y nos sentimos orgullos de verlos crecer en la confianza mientras vivian los valores de bondad, respeto, y servicio, poniendo en practica las Obras Corporales de Misericordia especialmente al visitar y acompañar a los residentes de Rose Villa con amor y dignidad. Sin duda, fue un día significativo para todos los presentes. Esperamos seguir creando más oportunidades como esta en el futuro.
