After much prayer and discussion, the program team for the Salesian Youth Leadership
Conference (SYLC), has made the difficult decision to cancel SYLC 2020 scheduled
for June 14-19, 2020 at Camp St. Francis in Aptos, California.
This decision did not come lightly; in fact, in dialogue with the Provincial and his
Council, along with state health officials, we acknowledge that the health, well-being,
and safety of our participants and the SYLC team are of utmost importance. As
circumstances surrounding COVID-19 continue to evolve and while June is still two
months away, the uncertainty of the shelter-in-place situation made it clear that we
would not be able to animate and deliver a quality conference.
While there will not be a SYLC 2020, the program team is committed to providing
resources for local communities to use this summer. More information will be sent to
CYMs and available at http://www.SYLConference.org soon.
All deposit payments that have been made will be reimbursed to local communities by
the Province Finance Office.
As we prepare to enter into the Easter Triduum, may each one of us take comfort in the
love and hope of our God. We know this is difficult, but please allow the Lord to guide
and protect us during these challenging times. We continue to be united as a Salesian
Family in prayer for all those who have died, are sick or quarantined, and their families.
We also lift up in prayer our healthcare workers and first responders who face this
disease every day.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
God bless,
