Fraternity in Service: Celebrating the Legacy of Father John Lam with the De La Salle Christian Brothers

By Luis Chacon

The De La Salle Christian Brothers recently organized a heartfelt farewell dinner in gratitude to Father John Lam for his many years of dedicated service to the ministry at Cathedral High School. Father Lam, who had been celebrating daily mass for the community of the Christian Brothers, has been a beloved figure in the community, and the dinner was a wonderful opportunity to express appreciation for his unwavering commitment to the education and development of young people.

The event was attended by a wide range of individuals, including Salesians and Christian Brothers alike, all of whom share a deep commitment to the education and empowerment of youth. The evening was filled with warmth, camaraderie, and heartfelt expressions of gratitude, with speakers taking the time to reflect on Father Lam’s many contributions and the impact he has had on the lives of those he has touched.

As a community, we were struck by the powerful sense of fraternity that permeated the room, as Salesians and Christian Brothers came together to celebrate a shared commitment to youth education and development. As we spoke with our fellow attendees throughout the evening, we were excited to learn about the many ways in which the De La Salle Christian Brothers have been making a difference in the lives of young people across the country. We were equally excited to share our own experiences working with youth through the Salesian Family Youth Center.

During the dinner, there was a deep sense of appreciation for Father Lam’s tireless efforts and dedication, which have left an indelible mark on the community. Attendees spoke fondly of the impact he has had on the lives of countless young people, both through his daily masses and his broader work in the field of education.

Looking ahead, there is much excitement about the potential for increased collaboration between the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Cathedral High School, and the Salesian Family Youth Center. In ongoing conversations with Brother Roch, there has been a growing sense of optimism about the possibilities for joint initiatives and the sharing of resources, with a shared goal of furthering the mission of youth education and empowerment.

Overall, the farewell dinner was a truly special event, and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the incredible work that Father Lam has done over the years. As a community, we are deeply grateful to the De La Salle Christian Brothers for organizing such a meaningful and memorable evening, and we look forward to continued collaboration in the years ahead.
