Last Friday, the Salesian Family Youth Center celebrated the Mexican holiday of 5 de Mayo with a bang. The event was a resounding success, bringing together children, youth, and staff members to celebrate Mexican culture and traditions.
The highlight of the celebration was the historical review presented by the Youth Center staff. The presentation was a wonderful opportunity for the children and youth who participate in our programs to learn about the significance of 5 de Mayo and its historical context. They were fascinated to learn about the Battle of Puebla and how it has come to symbolize Mexican identity and pride.
The celebration was not complete without food, and the Youth Center did not disappoint. Traditional Mexican dishes were served alongside pizza, satisfying everyone’s cravings. The feast was a great opportunity for everyone to come together, share stories, and bond over food.
Of course, no 5 de Mayo celebration is complete without a piñata, and the Youth Center had one ready for the occasion. The children and youth were excited to take turns trying to break it open and grab the goodies inside.
At the Salesian Family Youth Center, we are proud of the diverse community we have, and it is important for us to celebrate our traditions and cultural diversity. The 5 de Mayo celebration was a perfect example of how we bring together different cultures to create a sense of community and belonging.
We would like to thank all the staff members who worked tirelessly to organize this event and make it a success. We would also like to thank all the children and youth who participated and made the celebration so special.
Here’s to more celebrations that bring us together and create unforgettable memories at the Salesian Family Youth Center!
