From April 12th to April 14th, the second training the SYLC Spirit Team took place at St. Joseph’s Retreat Center in Rosemead, CA. On Friday, the team from both Northern and Southern California arrived and gathered for dinner, introductions, and some community builders. The first session focused on reflecting on the call to be on the Spirit Team and working within the SYLC committees to get ready for the conference in June. The night continued with a rosary led by the prayer team and a goodnight by Victoria Figueroa, who is a part of the SYLC social justice committee. The day ended with an ice cream social at the Don Bosco Tech youth room.
On Saturday, the team gathered for morning mass with the Rosemead Salesian community. Fr. Mel Trinidad, the Provincial, joined the Spirit Team during this time. The first session focused on animating prayer and guiding the Spirit Team to practice leading prayers. Shortly after, each member of the Spirit Team had an opportunity to work within their committees. The afternoon sessions focused on animating community builders and practicing good mornings during SYLC. The Spirit Team gathered for dinner, and Irma, from the Salesian Family Youth Center, cooked tacos for the team. After dinner, the last session of the day focused on reflecting on the legacy of SYLC and brainstorming a theme song for the conference. The night ended with prayer/adoration and a goodnight by Carlos Morales, who is a part of the SYLC social media team. It was a beautiful moment to reflect on work completed over the weekend and an opportunity to pray for the Spirit Team, future SYLC participants, and each individual’s intentions.
On Sunday, the SYLC Spirit Team joined the St. Joseph’s community for Sunday mass. Shortly after, the team enjoyed breakfast prepared by the Salesian Cooperators. The last session of the Spirit Team gathering focused on providing committee updates and planning the work that needs to be completed before SYLC. This weekend provided moments of joy, reflection, prayer, and fun infused with the Salesian spirit. Please continue to keep the Spirit Team in your prayers!
