Online meeting with Social Communication Delegates of the Interamerica and America South Cone Regions

(ANS – Rome) – On Tuesday October 21, 2025, the Social Communication Delegates of the Interamerica and America South Cone Region met online under the guidance of Fr. Fidel Orendain, General Councillor for the Sector. The meeting, moderated by Fr Ricardo Campoli, member of the SC Sector, focused on sharing updates, learning about expectations and priorities for the coming years, and reorganizing the Sector, defining future strategies to strengthen the mission in this area.

The meeting began with a prayer to Saint Mary Troncatti, which Tatiana Capelo, SC Delegate for the Province of Ecuador (ECU) read, and the subsequent greeting by Fr. Orendain, who invited us to work in synergy in the face of the new challenges of the sector and to keep in mind that ‘communication is not a secondary service, but a strategic dimension of our mission…’ (cf. C. 43).

Fr. Campoli offered the guiding presentation of the meeting, on behalf of Fr. Orendain.

Three main points were examined:

  • the progress made by the 29th General Chapter of the Congregation, emphasizing the reorganization process and the strategic orientations guiding the field of Social Communication on the basis of GC29 evaluations
  • secondly, the general tasks and expectations of the Sector, taking into account the areas of intervention and commitments
  • finally, the priorities for the next three to six years.

Furthermore, among other topics, the reorganisation of the Sector, its structure, orientation guidelines and communication management were discussed. It was then emphasized that the Sector’s final strategic plan will be confirmed on the basis of the Major Rector’s six-year project, thus ensuring that the Sector’s operations are always in line with the Congregation’s priorities.

Fr. Orendain also assured Delegates of the Sector’s commitment to offer principles and guidelines derived from the new Directory of Social Communication and the Acts of the General Chapter. He emphasized the importance of ongoing consultation, exchange of resources and formation opportunities such as seminars and spaces for sharing good practices. Finally, he encouraged SC Delegates to not only transmit INFORMATION, but to facilitate TRANSFORMATION.

At the end of the meeting, Delegates asked questions and a photo map was presented with all the “faces” of Salesian America.

The atmosphere was characterized by fraternity, and the online Delegates expressed their appreciation for the collaborative approach and clear direction provided by the Sector.

The meeting of the Social Communication Delegates for Salesian America reaffirmed the commitment of social communication to develop relationships in the religious community, in the educational-pastoral community and in the service to young people, not only through theoretical teaching or the management of devices, but also by prioritizing authentic witness.
