A constant theme runs through all the readings of the 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time, and it is, “Whatever you do, do it for the Glory of God.” Seven hundred years before Christ, Isaiah led the way, speaking to his fellow worshipers, “Thus says the LORD:” share food and shelter, your clothing with the hungry, the homeless, the naked. Do not turn away from your own and your light will shine. Remove evil from your midst. Do this and darkness will turn to light, gloom to midday brightness. Your wounds will be healed. Cry out and I will answer, “I am here!”
Note that Isaiah was saying, ‘Do good to others and God will do good for you.’ There is nothing wrong with that, but St. Pul elevated Christian giving higher. He taught God’s mysteries not t0 show his wisdom or powers of speech, but aware of his inability. Paul held that what was important for him was to mirror Christ so that his converts too would act as his Master did. Jesus He gave of Himself, so our giving too would be humble, for it could never exceed Christ’s giving. Paul’s lesson was to ‘Give in imitation of Christ who gave.’ Don’t aim to be seen as good, but as a Christian acting in the Name, light, and power of God.
Isaiah taught generosity and reward; Paul taught humble generosity in imitation of Christ, then Jesus taught not to fear being good. Be brave. about it. Jesus trusts that we live with proper intention, and if He asks that we act so as to reflect Him, surely, he is ready to help. He says,
“You are the salt of the earth.” If you lose your saltiness, what good are you? What will replace you? Found useless you will be thrown out.
“You are the light of the world.” You are meant to be set on God’s mountain. You can in no way be hidden. You are meant to be raised as on a lampstand to be seen and to help others to see. “Your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds.”
The Lord has made us to be “gracious, merciful, and just.” Let us not shirk that task. He is God, He is good unashamedly so. He is powerful. He is with us. He has revealed his intention for us.
Let your light shine before others, so that they may see
your good works and give glory to your Father. (Mt 5:16)
Por la Gloria de Dios
Un tema constante recorre todas las lecturas del quinto domingo en tiempo ordinario, y es: “Lo que hagas, hazlo por la gloria de Dios.” Setecientos años antes de Cristo, Isaías abrió el camino, hablando a sus compañeros de adoración: “Así dice el SEÑOR: compartid comida y refugio, vuestra ropa con los hambrientos, los sin hogar, los desnudos. No te apartes de los tuyos y tu luz brillará. Elimina el mal de tus alrededores. Si haces esto, la oscuridad se convertirá en luz, la penumbra en brillo del mediodía. Tus heridas se curarán. Grita y te responderé: “¡Estoy aquí!”
Fíjate en que Isaías decía: ‘Haz el bien a los demás y Dios te hará el bien.’ No hay nada de malo en eso, pero San Pul elevó la donación cristiana a un nivel superior. Enseñó los misterios de Dios no mostrando su sabiduría ni su capacidad de habla, sino consciente de su incapacidad. Pablo sostenía que lo importante para él era reflejar a Cristo para que sus conversos también actuaran como lo hacía su Maestro. A Jesús se dio de sí mismo, para que nuestro don también fuera humilde, pues nunca podría superar el don de Cristo. La lección de Pablo fue: ‘Da en imitación de Cristo que dio.’ No busques ser visto como bueno, sino como un cristiano que actúa en el Nombre, la luz y el poder de Dios.
Isaías enseñó generosidad y recompensa; Pablo enseñó la humildad generosidad en imitación de Cristo, luego Jesús enseñó a no temer ser bueno. Sé valiente. sobre eso. Jesús confía en que vivimos con la intención adecuada, y si Él nos pide que actuemos de modo a reflejarle, seguro que está dispuesto a ayudar. Dice,
“Eres la sal de la tierra.” Si pierdes el sabor salado, ¿de qué sirves? ¿Qué te reemplazará? Si te consideran inútil, te echarán fuera.
“Eres la luz del mundo.” Estás destinado a estar en la montaña de Dios. De ninguna manera puedes estar oculto. Estás destinado a ser criado como en un farolero para ser visto y para ayudar a los demás a ver.”Tu luz debe brillar ante los demás, para que vean tus buenas acciones.”
El Señor nos ha hecho para ser “misericordiosos, misericordiosos y justos”. No eludamos esa tarea. Él es Dios, es bueno sin vergüenza. Es poderoso. Está con nosotros. Ha revelado su intención para nosotros.
Deja que tu luz brille ante los demás, para que puedan verla
tus buenas obras y da gloria a tu Padre. (Mt 5:16)
