(ANS – Buenos Aires) – The academic journal Chronica. Revista de archivos, fuentes y documentación histórica de los salesianos en Argentina has reached a significant milestone in its brief but intense academic history. Founded in 2022, it has now been officially approved and indexed in the European ERIH PLUS index (European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences).
Chronica is an academic journal established to raise awareness of the documentation held at the two sites of the Salesian Historical Archives of the Argentina South Province, which resulted from the merger of the former archives—the Historical Archives of the Salesian Missions in Patagonia, based in Bahía Blanca, and the Central Salesian Archives, based in Buenos Aires. A third site has since been added: the Salesian Historical Archives of the Argentina North Province, based in Córdoba. Together, the three sites hold documents bearing witness to the work carried out by the Salesians from their arrival in Argentina in 1875 to the present day.
This achievement consolidates Chronica as a point of reference for the preservation, study, and dissemination of the historical and documentary heritage of Salesian work in the country and the region. Inclusion in ERIH PLUS certifies the publication’s editorial quality and promotes its recognition by scientific evaluation bodies such as the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET), where the journal is classified in Group 1, the highest level of Argentina’s national academic classification.
New Opportunities for Dissemination
Inclusion in this database opens up new avenues of dissemination for researchers, archivists, historians, and members of the public interested in Salesian heritage:
- International quality certification: Compliance with rigorous standards for anonymous peer review, originality, and editorial integrity.
- Greater visibility of articles: The journal’s scholarly output will be directly integrated into the ERIH PLUS global search engine via DOI identifiers, facilitating international access and citation.
- Public and open access: The journal’s official record is already available for consultation in the ERIH PLUS catalog at erihplus.hkdir.no/journal?id=509901.
Chronica had already begun to gain recognition in academic circles through its inclusion in LatinREV and the Latindex Directorio, as well as its addition to the AmeliCA Index of Journals in Development.
This achievement is the result of the collective and ongoing efforts of the editorial board, scientific committee, editorial secretariat, and authors who entrust their research to the journal, reaffirming its commitment to democratizing access to sources and historical memory. It serves as an incentive to continue working toward bringing academic publications up to the quality standards required by scientific indexing systems.
