The Provincial and his Council of the Salesians of Don Bosco San Francisco Province, USA West announce the appointment of Fr. Fabian Cardenas SDB as Province Delegate for Youth Ministry beginning on July 1, 2020.
Born in Bogota, Colombia on June 12, 1988 Fabian, grew up in a humble, hard-working, and welcoming family with strong Catholic roots. He came to know the Salesians of Don Bosco from his father, who studied with the Salesians in his youth.
In 2006 Fabian entered formation with the Salesians and made his first religious profession on January 19, 2008. As a Salesian of Don Bosco, he studied at the Minuto de Dios University, where he earned a degree in philosophy. He was assigned in his first year of practical training to assist in the formation of the pre-novices. In his second year of practical training, he served as coordinator and manager of a Salesian boarding school in Colombia. He later went on to pursue a degree in Theology from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia, which he earned in 2013. On the Solemnity of St. John Bosco, January 31, 2014, Fabian made his perpetual profession as a Salesian of Don Bosco.
In 2017 he came to California where he began teaching Spanish at Saint John Bosco High School, Bellflower. He also ministered to various latino immigrant groups at St. Dominic Savio Parish, Bellflower. He has been part of the formation team that accompanies young men who are discerning Salesian religious life. On March 25, 2019 he was ordained a priest.
For the past two years, he has served on the Province Youth Ministry Commission and has been part of the commission’s Evangelization and Catechesis task group.
Fr. Fabian loves the outdoors. In his spare time, he likes to go biking as well as explore nature and hiking various local trails. He also enjoys vibrant conversations with friends over a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon or curled up with a good book.
While he is understandably anxious about his new assignment, Fr. Fabian is excited and ready to jump into this new role of animation and ministry. He asks for your prayers and looks forward to working alongside you to bring young people to a closer encounter of Jesus, the Risen Christ.
