SYLC Evaluation

On August 12th the SYLC Team met to evaluate SYLC 2021. The evaluation was based off of a survey that was taken by each member who contributed to the overall organization and completion of the conference. This meeting proved to be very helpful and it helped summarize the strengths and weaknesses of each element of SYLC. This past conference was completely different then anything the Youth Ministry Office had ever done, and it proved to be a huge learning experience. Looking into the future we hope to be able to combine everything that we have learned to make SYLC even better for future generations to come.

Visit to Camp St. Francis

On August 15th, Gina Robles and Marisol Becerra, from the Youth Ministry Office, visited Camp St. Francis to meet with Bro. Khoa, the new camp director. They assisted Bro. Khoa with a few administrative projects while also enjoying the cool weather at camp. This trip proved to be very successful.

Schools Formation Retreat

On August 13 the Province Youth Ministry Office assisted Bro. Al Vu, Coordinator of Education with a New Faculty & Staff Day for our Salesian Schools.  During the day they shared in community building activities, learned about the oratory experience, the preventive system and the Salesian Youth Movement. 

Schools Retreat for Santa Isabel and St. Mary’s

On August 19 the Province Youth Ministry Office facilitated a retreat and formation day at St. Joseph Retreat Center for the educators and administrators of Santa Isabel and Saint Mary’s elementary schools.  This was the first time the elementary schools gathered together to learn about Salesian Spirituality and what it means to be a Salesian Educator.  Both schools were accompanied by Fr. Marco Riveros, SDB and Fr. Jim Nieblas, SDB Director of the Salesian Community in Los Angeles.

Region XI

From  August 23 through August 26 Fr. Fabian Cardenas and Ms.Gina Robles attended the annual gathering of Region XI representing the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Province at the Christ the King Passionist Retreat Center in Sacramento.  Region XI is made up of Diocesan Directors/Coordinators of Youth Ministry, Diocesan Directors/Coordinators of Young Adult Ministry, Diocesan Directors/Coordinators of Pastoral Juvenil, & NFCYM Organizational Members.  As organizational members it was a great opportunity to be a resource to the region.  We shared best practices, networked, prayed and collaborated to continue the mission of bringing young people to Christ in the region and beyond.

Salesian Youth Movement Commission Meeting

On August 28th Fr. Fabian and Gina Robles attended the Salesian Youth Movement Commission meeting.  The Salesian Youth Movement USA-West SUO coordinator Mrs. Elena Diaz, introduced the commission and proposed plans to begin to rebuild and promote the foundational structures of the Salesian Youth Movement in the Western United States.

Youth Ministry Office Updates

The Province Youth Ministry Office has undergone some changes. What used to be a storage room is now a work room. This room will be very useful for planning events, hosting meetings, and an extra space for the volunteers to work and is open to be used for other departments of the province.
