Salesian High School Welcomes Tomorrow’s Innovators: New Saturday STEM Series Launched in Los Angeles for Future Mustangs

(Boyle Heights, California) – Curiosity, creativity, and scientific discovery are bringing the next generation of young innovators to Salesian High School in Los Angeles. Through its new STEM Saturday Series, the school is welcoming boys in grades 5–7 to explore science and technology while getting an early taste of the high school experience.

During the sessions, students explore biology and chemistry through hands-on laboratory experiences, including both wet and dry lab activities. These experiences give them opportunities to experiment, observe, investigate, and apply what they learn. Students are also introduced to coding, opening the door to the creative and problem solving possibilities of computer science.

“The response has been encouraging! More than 80 boys representing 30 different schools have participated in the first two Saturday sessions, bringing enthusiasm and curiosity into Salesian’s classrooms and laboratories.”
— Dr. Adrien Lopez, Vice President of Admissions

For many of these young students, the program is not only an opportunity to discover new interests but also a chance to experience the environment, facilities, and academic community of a Salesian high school.

Beyond the experiments and technology activities, STEM Saturdays provide opportunities for students to develop problem-solving skills, work through challenges, ask questions, and learn alongside one another. These experiences encourage young people to see science and technology not simply as school subjects but as fields where imagination, perseverance, and discovery can make a difference.

The final session of the STEM Saturday Series will take place on Saturday, November 14, completing this inaugural series. The strong participation across the first two sessions demonstrates the interest among young students in meaningful, hands-on opportunities to explore STEM.

STEM Saturdays are giving these young learners a first look at what is possible at Salesian High School—and perhaps sparking the beginning of a much longer journey of discovery.
